Defining an individual goal

"The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never score." – Bill Copeland.

Still in the starting phase with the Senior Project, I asked the class to define their individual goals for their individual project. I might have caused some confusion, because students asked, if the individual goal is the same as the goal of the class. My idea was, that everyone writes down their individual goal according to the SMART formula and then we can find out, where we share common ground.

To make sure your goals are clear and reachable, each one should be:

  • Specific (simple, sensible, significant).

  • Measurable (meaningful, motivating).

  • Achievable (agreed, attainable).

  • Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based).

  • Time bound (time-based, time limited, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive).

If you want to learn, how to define a goal with the SMART formula, please read the following article:

https://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/smart-goals.htm

It is important, that you write down your goal and not only imagine it in your mind!
