A new week for the seniors means another new event and its planning! During the week from the 6th to the 12th of November, we, the seniors, decided to work on a different type of event. We did not really know what it would be, but we knew that we wanted it to be different from all the others we worked on. We did not really have any idea of what to do. That is why I went around the high school and asked for what the students wanted as event. Several answers were given to me, but the most frequent one was a marathon. I kept this in mind. With the senior class we planned on meeting three times during the week. During the first meeting, we started brainstorming ideas, and I brought up the idea of the marathon. That was it. Our event was a marathon with the title Miles4Charity.

It was then time to figure out how we should make it different. We decided that this event would be open to everybody not only ASI people, it would be open to all age groups, it would be part of the house competition in our school, and it would take place on a Saturday morning. The most important thing was that we made sure that nobody would have to pay anything for participation, we would just hold a bake sale at the end and make sure to tell people to donate if they wanted to. Our event was set, we only needed to work on its organization during the next meetings.

On Wednesday the 8th, Mrs. Eddouks, Oumnia, Salma and I attended a presentation by an AUI alumni, Youssef El Boukhari, about Design Thinking. It was a very interesting talk as we learned several things that we can apply in our project including the fact that it is very important to ask people for their needs before helping them instead of assuming what they need or want, and the fact that in a project people should only focus on one thing at a time rather than many.
We later on held two more meetings where we organized the rest of the event. On Saturday morning, the seniors met at 8 in the morning to work on the decoration. We blew up balloons, worked on the sound system, set posters, and prepared the tables for the bake sale and the registration. Many students, teachers, parents, and outsiders joined the race that started at 10:15 am. We had 3 winners for each age group who received prizes at the end of the race. Parents helped us in the bake sale that took place at the end. Money was put in our donation box by several people. At the end, the bake sale was very successful as we had a variety of cakes and juices including smoothies. Our event was very successful and different from the others. We hope that people will keep helping us raise money for our project like they did on Saturday.
