Breaking News: Growing Tensions

During the week from 13th to 19th of November, the senior class faced many challenges including a collapse of the team!!! On Monday, we had our senior class as usual and discussed the shocking news we received from the director. These were basically making changes or even cancelling the event we were organizing. We planed for having a movie and video game night on Wednesday 22nd. The movies we chose were “Smurfs: The Lost Village” and “Happy Death Day” which was only accessible by students 13+. For the video games, we picked “Call of Duty: Black Ops” as many students showed interest in it. However, the director did not approve it as its violent content was inappropriate for the safe educational environment in ASI. We were encouraged by the people around us to give up the video game part and only focus on having a movie night. Nevertheless, we searched for new video games that are PG13 and could be available during the event. We ended up picking FIFA 18 and WWE 2015 which was also accessible only by students 13+. Thankfully, we got approval to use these games in our event.

Also, we worked with Mr. Kharoufi on writing a letter in arabic to be sent to both the director of the Tarmilat school and the director of the provincial ministry of education in Ifrane. These letters were to get permission to visit the school and talk to its principle and students in order to understand the school’s needs.

Back to the event, we gathered in our weekly meeting on Thursday to work more on the event organization. Marouane and Mouataz were absent and it was excused as they went to Rabat to participate in a soccer tournament. The meeting was fun without the guys!! (just kidding).

On Friday, all of us met again in our senior class with Mrs. Eddouks. We discussed how the Thursday meeting galvanized the tensions that had already existed from miscommunications during previous meetings. The senior students revealed what they dislike in the team and the things they thought were going unfairly. These tensions made some of us feel like the team was about to collapse. That is because we were not on the same truck anymore. This was a RED ALARM for the unity of the team. Mrs. Eddouks gave us some papers that explained how miscommunication can occur and how it can be avoided. We tried to solve the issue as some of us were asked to slow down in their work and others were asked to speed up. This was to make everyone have the same pace and, thus, perform better as a team. Every team goes through “ups and downs”. We just experienced a “down” and we are in the process of holding up again.
