Why do I need a "Why"

At the beginning of the year the Senior class did not in any way start with choosing a Senior Project, or even planning for upcoming events. Instead Mrs. Eddouks decided to first help them define a “Why”. So, What is a “why” ? Well simply put it was created by Simon Sinek and can be used, or define, as a method for success in any project, business or life event. Students learned that their “why” is the reason behind their project. The reason they are raising money, the reason they are choosing this project. Before embarking on a journey they first have to discover the reason they decided to go on the journey in order for it to be successful.

To help students with their “Why” a test was taken that helped them determine their “personality”. There were different spectrums of the test and the Seniors were well spread out, some with Commander Types, others with Mediators and still others with the Entrepreneur Personality. Overall this test would help them with defining roles during and throughout the year. It also aided them with writing about their “why”, and some were able to elaborate more on their “Why”.Another activity was the “Friends Test” where students were asked to go to their closest friends and determine the reason for them being the Student’s friend. This was also somewhat helpful in the area of one’s personality, because friends would generally give students more direction on their “Why”.
